I take back all those disparaging comments I’ve made about prints, on my blog and elsewhere. This silk charmeuse print totally blew me away when I saw it. I immediately thought of a 70’s style shirtdress. It looks like a border print, but the print actually runs from selvedge to selvedge, so I cut the dress on the cross grain to get the effect I wanted. There was a large amount of negative space on the fabric that did not contain print, so I used some of it to make a slip. I’m totally into the whole matching slip idea lately. It will be especially useful under a shirtdress, because they have a habit of coming unbuttoned.
The patterns are both from Burdastyle. The shirtdress is from 6/2012 and the slip is from 8/1999.

That is a *brilliant* use of a border print!
What beautiful fabric! I’d love to see this modelled to get the full effect.
Claudine – this looks brilliant! and I love the matching slip idea, too. Hope to see this modeled on you!!
What a beauty, so thoughtfully planned- i love this!
Brilliant use of the fabric, Claudine. Love it.
Wow, that is really pretty!
I’m in love with it, too, and the way you played with the print is so interesting and one-of-a-kind.
What a wonderful way to play with print. It’s wonderful.
Love the border print and how you used it. Gorgeous!
Please let us know as soon as you can that you and your family are all right. You are in our prayers. J Lynn
Thank you for asking! I am fine, fine, fine. I have power, internet access, and an intact house. I am so very lucky that I can share my luck with others. A couple of my daughters’ friends are staying here until their power comes back on. And we ran an extension cord to my neighbor’s house so they can run a few things from it. And half the neighborhood is using our wifi.
lovely! the placement of the print is so awesome 🙂
Absolutely spectacular!
Pretty interesting!
I am 100 percent in love with this dress! I mean to comment a week ago. I’m going to have to steal your qoute at the beginning about prints, HAHA. I have a silk similar to this. But, heavens knows I do not have your skill set to make it work. I love everything about this.
Ilove howyou’ve used this beautiful print.
I’ve been away from your ‘blog for a little while and am catching up with your last few posts. What a delight it is to see one beautiful creation after another, Claudine. You used this amazing fabric to its greatest advantage. Your dress is gorgeous.
