To My Friends on Blogger

If you have a Blogger blog, please be aware that I am having problems posting comments on your blog using my WordPress credentials. The word verification just won’t go through. For those blogs that allow anonymous comments, I can comment as anonymous and leave a link to my blog at the end.

Does everyone on WordPress have this problem? Is there another way around it?

Yes, I have a Blogger account, but it refers to a years-old version of this blog and I don’t like to use it.

Have you tried opening the blog in a different browser? Try Firefox, for example. Might work!

I have tried that with IE and Chrome. It does not work. I think if the Blogger blog is using the newer format, I can use my WordPress credentials. For instance, I can comment on your blog with no problem. Do you use the newer Blogger format?

Yes, I think so. The format that allows me (or anyone) to respond to specific comments.

I love that feature. That’s why I switched my blog from Blogger to WordPress.

I use Firefox and I have the same problem. It is really irritating, but I haven’t figured out how to get around it. sewingforme.wordpress.com

I post comments from googlemail instead of wordpress. Try that!

That works, but I really want to use my WordPress credentials. Not everyone whose blogs I comment on knows who I am, and it’s easy for them to click through to my blog if I use my wordpress credentials or if I’m anonymous and leave a link. Using my gmail credentials muddies the waters with another identity.

How do you email comments to a blog and have it show up in the proper comment thread?

      • Posted February 11, 2012 at 4:11 pm | Permalink

You don’t email the comments. You log in to blogger using your gmail address as credentials.

This is for all of us. I even had my techie friend look at it-it’s a Blogger problem. I know I can do Googlemail but I refuse-why won’t Google allow WordPress to post?

I’m a WordPress user and have been having the same problem. I though it was just me because I reformatted my netbook a few days ago, but it looks as though it’s a blogger problem if it’s happening to others.

It’s a known problem with Blogger accepting WordPress OpenID according to what I’ve found. I’ve had to set up a Blogger profile to comment on Blogger blogs – and as of Friday that’s stopped working as well. Very frustrating.

I’ve been having the same problem with blogger. I’ll try some of the fixes suggested.

That’s frustrating. I remember when you migrated to wordpress because of that feature. A few weeks ago, all of a sudden, interleaved comments started working on my “blogger” blog. I was surprised because I didn’t set them up. I have to admit, I love the feature far more than I thought I would.

One more frustrated WP user – I also thought it was just me. Will follow up with any solutions if I’m so fortunate to find one.

OH GOOD!! I was afraid it was just me. I keep posting comments on Blogger blogs and they seem to just disappear into thin air.

I have the HARDEST time commenting on Blogger. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t. I kind of just gave up.

It doesn’t matter what platform you use, the problem is with OpenID (in short, it doesn’t work). This means that in order for non-blogger people to comment on a blogger blog, the blog owner can either install disqus (or something similar) which is a cross platform login that allows commentators to keep their own IDs OR have a name+URL option that allows non-blogger commentators to comment (but without maintaining their cross-platform Identities, i.e. Gravatar etc will not work). Or they could just install Gravatar but Google seems to have spotty support for that too. There are massive discussions on online forums about this-commercial sites in particular seen their commenting go up 60% or more after installing cross platform commenting systems/ moving out of blogger. The problem seems to have existed forever and Google (they own Blogger) doesn’t seem to care. The only quick fix is letting the blog owner know either through comments or email so they can do something about it themselves..
