The wedding was a ton of fun! We really don’t do that kind of thing very often, so it was a nice change for us. A couple of people commented favorably on my dress and coat. Here are a few photos of the dress as worn by me, rather than just on my dress form. […]

Christmas Miracle Realized!
The sleeves are on the coat! I dithered about the sleeves for a while, because they are very full. I considered re-drafting the sleeve so it would not be quite so balloon-shaped. Then I decided that I should just go whole hog and make the sleeves as drafted. I finished them on Christmas, but have […]
Hoping for a Christmas Miracle
Man, this coat is taking a long time! I only have the sleeves, shoulder pads, and final press left to do, so for Christmas I want some time and inclination to finish this coat before next weekend. When I work on a tailored garment, I always do the finishing work before I put the sleeves […]
Evening Coat — Fabric
With just about every project, someone asks in the comments about the fabric I used. I figured, since coat progress is slow, that I would answer that question now, before it is asked. Evening Coat — Front Applique
Here’s the front applique for my evening coat. I pinned it together at the center front for the photo; eventually it will have snaps. I like the way it’s coming along. For some detail on how I did the applique, check my previous post.

Baby Steps
An evening coat has been on my to-sew list for about as long as I’ve been sewing. I have always dithered about it because it’s such a big project that it’s hard to motivate myself to do it if I have no where to wear it to. However, I’m going to a black tie event […]
Evening Dress — More Detailed Photos
It’s taken me a while to get around to this, but here are some more detailed photos of my evening dress. For some info on my process, please check these posts.
The First Unveiling
It’s finished! I think I like it. I’m not in the mood to take good photos. I will try to get some detail shots next week. For now, the front and the back…
Evening Dress Progress — The Slip
The red fabric was the favorite for me and also among the commenters. My red silk charmeuse has some stretch to it, so I could make the slip without fasteners. The white pencil markings on the slip mark where I will put the ruffle.
