Well-Placed Accents

blue-green-shibori-9863

This dress is finished just in time for the warm weather in the northeastern US this week! The fabric started out the lime green color, then I tie-dyed it blue, leaving some lime green as an embellishment. I like the way it turned out.

Back view. If it look a little off, that's because the form is bigger than me, so the dress does not zip up all the way.

Wow that is truly beautiful. I love the color combo and the shibori tie dye is done amazingly well. Kudos! Are you wearing it tomorrow? I’m sad that we won’t be dying together this year. :/

I love every thing you make but this may be one of my favorites. It is a show stopper. WOW.

Claudine, do you ever make a pattern as is out of the envelope with fabric that you don’t alter in some way?

    No?

    That’s what I thought.

This dress is lovely. And as usual you gave me an idea, this time for the acres of florescent green voile that I bought for super cheap. Thank you for the idea and for the eye candy. ♥

Yes! I’d love to see it on you, too. I love the colors, the print, and the style.

It’s beautiful, Claudine. I hope you’ll be posting (even a small post) about your process. I’d be very interested to see how you did the collar, particularly. It’s so perfectly placed!

Thanks! It is possible that I will do a how-to on shibori, but I’m frankly not crazy about doing tutorial posts. They are a ton of work. The technique I used for the collar is called something like uri nu, but it’s obvious that I’m spelling it wrong because I come up with nothing when I google it. But any book on Shibori techniques will cover it.

        Ahh, it’s called ori-nui.

haha! I understand about the work on tutes – photographing every step and writing it all out. I shall pick up a book on Shibori and start reading. And I hope we get to see the dress modeled for MMM…. 🙂

That is such a gorgeous dress. I love the effect from dying. I think the pattern number is incorrect though, maybe 2632?

Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve corrected the photo caption.

This dress is fantastic. Love the details—the quirky trompe-l’oeil collar, the unusual color combination, the silk faille—and the overall effect.

Very nice! The dyeing was done with a light hand and the placement of the special effects is wonderful.

It is a gorgeous dress! I love that you’re using the Vogue patterns from your collection to achieve the looks you desire. I must remember to do that. Love the dyeing technique and how it really brings the dress to the next level! Awesome!

Thanks! I don’t know what possessed me to look through my envelope patterns recently. I guess I should not be surprised that there are a lot of great patterns in my collection.
