Disheveled Finery

rose-coat-8135

I’ve just embarked on yet another of my epic projects. This one is a trench coat influenced by a Nina Ricci dress worn by Carey Mulligan in Vogue. The dress is silk satin with screen printed roses patched onto the fabric. It found its way onto my sewing room wall, and now will become a coat for me.

The photo above is the completed screen printing. The pale patches are silk duchesse satin, and will go on the outside of the coat. The coat is the same light blue silk. The black is the silk gazar lining on which I printed the same rose in pearl white ink. The black ink is versatex, which I’m trying for the first time. It has a lovely velvety hand when it dries and sets. Most inks I’ve used feel a bit latex-y, and I’m glad I used this one for this project.

Love your take on the inspiration! When do we see the final product? 🙂
