My older daughter wants snowflakes on the sleeves of her holiday dress this year, so I appliqued some for her. The photos are of the flat pieces that are not sewn together as a dress yet.
I stitched them from the wrong side with silver metallic thread in the bobbin.
Drat! I knew I should have taken photos of my process!
First, I trace off the snowflakes onto paper. You can obviously also print them out.
Then, I make a little sandwich with a square of the white fabric (right side down) on the bottom, the red fabric (rs down) in the middle, and the paper with the snowflake on it on top. Pin it all together securely.
Take it to the sewing machine with decorative thread in the bobbin and sew along the lines on the paper.
Tear away the paper, flip it over and carefully cut away the white fabric around the snowflake.
Voila!
Here are some other appliques that I’ve done. Some are more complicated than this one.

This may be a silly question – but how did you know where to sew the snowflakes if sewing from the wrong side? I would not be able to follow the appliqué!
BTW – love your work and enjoy your posts. Found you via “male pattern boldness.”
