Initially I was planning on using black as an underlay for my dress. I like the idea of black mostly because it’s obvious that it’s there, so people won’t look at me and wonder if I’m wearing anything under my sheer outer dress. But then when I saw the sheer fabric of the skirt over black, it kind of looked like the black sucked the life out of the colors in the fabric. Then I decided to take some other silks from my stash and try them out. I pinned the silk yardage to the dress form, and pinned the silk tulle for the next skirt layer to the silk yardage. Here are the possibilities:
I’m going to sleep on it, but I’m pretty sure I like the red best. The textured silk looks OK too, though.

I love the red too!
Agree – the red really does bring out the colour. Can’t wait to see it finished.
I like the red best too. What a beautiful dress this will be!
The red gives it depth and makes the colors so much richer. It’s such a beautiful dress!
I like the textured silk best. It’s looking good!
Red, then the first black, that’s my top two votes.
I like the red. I think it ties the entire garment together. I agree with you about the black – the bodice details disappear into it – and the lighter colours detract from the skirt. But I think textured silk works second best. It’s going to be stunning, Claudine!
Looks like either the tan or red brings the beautiful fabric to life, I agree with you that the black makes it dull and just ordinary. It is stunning!

I like the textured silk best, red second.
I agree with Nancy K. The textures silk really lets the top shine.
There’s something about the red that really lifts the other colours, at least in the photo. So that is my favourite.
