Here’s where I am on my evening dress. The zipper is in and the sleeves are attached. Trying it on, I should have drafted the armholes a bit higher, but I think it will be all right.
I was toying with the idea of making a high collar and cuffs out of the light colored silk that I used to trim the skirt, but I was feeling a little un-inspired about it. Then I picked up the current issue of the American fashion magazine W. Around once a year or so, W has the best fashion spread I have even seen. And the October 2012 issue has that kind of spread. There’s this really dark Victorian piece that’s all dark dresses worn with high-collared white blouses. I hung all the fashion pages on the wall of my sewing room. I even considered buying a second copy of the magazine so I can put the reverse sides of the pages up. There’s also an amazing photo of Rachel Feinstein wearing current-season Marc Jacobs. If you are in the US, get this magazine. Or at least look at it in the library. Anyway, the light-colored collars in the magazine photos made me think that I’m on the right track with my plans for an off-white collar on this dress.

Ohhh, it’s so beautiful!
It is very beautiful. I’d resist the urge to add the collar and cuffs. Less is definitely more.
Hmm, I was thinking that the light fabric needs to be somewhere else in the dress to balance the pale color at the hem. Also, I need some kind of a neckline.
The skirt is draping beautifully and I have to say I agree with Gail about the less is more.
I like the collar idea, its lovely so far!
It´s looking lovely! Can´t wait to see it finish!
