Here’s where I am on my evening dress project. I have placed all of the strips on the tulle bodice pieces. Initially, I thought I was making slow progress. Then I realized that it was not that I was not working on it enough. The problem was, the process was just really time-consuming. I like how the pieces are looking, though.
Next, I’m going to start thinking about the skirt. I’m really, really loving the skirt shape on the Marchesa gown pictured above, but I may not have enough fabric to achieve it. I’m going to see what I can do to achieve something like it.

Wow. Beautiful work and can’t wait to see what you come up with for the skirt! Very inspiring.
If I may make a suggestion, can you get more fabric in a slightly lighter shade or contrasting shade so that you can make the skirt? It would give the skirt a shimmering effect that would complement the embellishment on the top of the dress. BTW, the work that you’ve done on the bodice and sleeves is just amazing!
I am considering using the silk tulle that I used in the bodice as one of the layers to bulk it up a bit. I’m loath to add another fabric at this point, but since I’m using the tulle elsewhere in the dress, it may look like an organic part of the whole rather than a desperate ploy for more volume.
Wow! I can’t wait to see this one!
Really looking forward to see your dress! So inspiring!
At least you started early on this dress! It does look like a time consuming process but well worth the effort. Do you sketch out projects like this?
I do sketch in a fashionary, but often I change the design considerably after I start working on it. Like with this one. I knew what I wanted for the top, I knew I wanted a waist seam with some kind of belt/sash, and I knew I wanted a full skirt. It was only when I was finishing up the embellishment on the top that I saw the skirt I wanted.
