Labor of Love

My husband’s favorite shorts are in just pitiful shape at the moment. He cannot seem to find any other shorts that compare, so he asked me if I would copy them for him. Since he almost never asks me to make him anything, I could not very well refuse him. From the outside, these shorts seem like pretty much any shorts that you can get anywhere, but on closer inspection I saw that there are 2 things about them that very much appeal to him:
1. the gusset, which makes them very comfortable to wear
2. the MASSIVE pockets. I never realized exactly how huge they are until I analyzed them to copy them. They are so big that they straddle the side seams. My husband loves to carry around way too much stuff with him, so I can see why he loves these shorts so much.

So anyway, here they are. Shorts.

Back view. I put a welt pocket closed with Velcro.

Pocket detail. One side of the pocket bag has a seam to match up with the side seam.

Great job copying that pocket! I’ll bet if you made it any bigger he would fill it up to capacity too!

That pocket really is enormous! Nice that you were able to copy them for him. What’s the verdict, is he as happy with these as with the original?

Gussets are AWESOME! I put them in all the sports shorts I make myself now. My son always comments on how small womens pockets are and how much he loves mens pants because of the pockets (which I suppose is a good thing since he’s a dude). Now we can see why! 😉

Great job and how cool is it to finally get to make something for your hubby! 😀

A perfect clone! well done 🙂
Your coat in the previous post is absolutely magnificent, a work of art. I simply adore that spray painted lining. Absolutely beautiful.
