My daughter will be the first zooble-based superhero! She designed the dress herself, as evidenced in the drawing above. She seems to like my interpretation. I fashioned the star out of outsized paillettes. The zoobles are reverse applique.
I’ve been a little off buying fabric lately, but I had no knit fabric on hand to make a comfy kids dress. Then DH graciously volunteered some of his old shirts for me to use for the dress. I took 3 white shirts, dyed them purple, and cut around the screen printed motifs to make the dress. The shirts took the dye slightly differently. When I constructed the skirt, I made sure to alternate the different colors when I placed the gores.
I self-lined the bodice so there would be a clean finish at the neck and armhole edges. Also, the 2 layers of fabric make a more stable base for the embellishments on the front.

Oh my gosh, Claudine. Totally adorable. Your daughter is lucky to have a mom who can make her visions take form. Very very special.
I think that ‘best mom ever’ trophy is probably waiting in your mailbox!
Allow me to point out that the reason that I took on this project in the summer when my kids are home is because, when I am making something for my children, they totally respect my sewing time and never bother me.
Ain’t that the truth? Well said!
I love that!
Hee, very amusing. Love the little dress!
Awesome. Just awesome.
Delightful! You did a great job interpreting your daughter’s vision.
See – this is where having just boys get’s boring. All they let me make them are capes and p.j.’s. I love the star btw! ( I have NO idea what a Zooble is though?)
A zooble is a Happy Meal toy. See my previous post for a photo of the actual toy:
A.DORBS!!! Way cute! You are the Super Mom!
Awesomesauce! I’m sure the dress confers whatever special powers zoobles have on your daughter whenever she wears it. LOL
