This blouse (blogged here) has been in my wardrobe for a while, but it seems like I could never find anything to wear with it that was in proper proportion. Then, as I was watching Season 2 of Downton Abbey, I started thinking that a long, dark, high-waisted skirt is just what I need for this blouse. I hope I end up liking the outfit. It could skew away from “Downton Abbey” in a “sister wife” direction, but I will try not to let that happen.
The pattern is based on Burdastyle 3/09 104. I used the waistband/yoke from the pattern, and flared and lengthened the skirt. It fits well, and should be comfortable. The fabric is a silk/cotton blend, lined in a silk print.

What an awesome outfit! Love it!
At first glance I thought this outfit a bit “dowdy” but then I took a closer look and decided it was just that the colour blue is not my fave and the fine details are not so obvious in the small picture…the outfit is beautifully executed and not at all ‘dowdy”. The blouse with its lace detail is actually remarkable; the lace and the print reflect each other marvelously well. I also like the sleeve detail; most unexpected and adds that certain je ne sais quoi one sees in vintage couture but is so sadly lacking these days!
I think it looks like a great outfit. I’ve always loved that blouse you made, so I’m glad you have found a new way to style it.
That is such a lovely blouse, and it looks great with the long skirt. Downtown Abbey has amazing dressmaking inspirations, doesn’t it? The silhouettes are so feminine, and I especially love all the little extra details, like velvet ribbon edging on the jacket edges, and pearl buttons, and pin-tucked blouses.
Beautiful!!! I love long skirts and it’s perfect with that blouse!!! I can’t imagine you not liking it when you wear it…it’s like an expensive designer outfit.
