Skating Dress

Front view. I had not hemmed the sleeves yet.

.
DD wants to start wearing skating dresses to her figure skating class. DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THOSE THINGS COST!!!??? So off I went to Spandex House in New York, which is skating dress supply central, and stocked up on a few fabrics that sparkle and stretch. I’m planning on making several of these, but I want her to wear this to one of her classes and tell me if it’s OK.

The pattern I used was KwikSew 3508, which was just what I needed. I appliqued the sparkly fabric to the front and back pieces of plainer fabric. I started it yesterday, and from tracing the pattern to having it on her body, I could have finished it in one day. Then I decided to watch a movie after dinner rather than sew, so I finished it today. But really, it was very easy.

DD has been wearing it around the house all day. I’m glad she likes it.

Back view. It's a bit big on her, because I would like it to last until spring.

Nice skating costume. I hope you have fun with the skating sewing, I have a not-very-secret fondness for sewing with sparkly stretchy fabric for dance costumes, so different from day clothes.

Excellent job! Those can be very tricky to work on and it looks great. And yes I do know how much they cost. O.o

I would suggest a few short sleeved ones; the little skater in question may get a little hot while she’s working so hard out there. (Experience) A cute little matching cardi can be an excellent accessory that can be removed when things get warmer. And we all know how much girls LOVE accessories! πŸ˜‰

You really did a great job for your first one! (This was your first?)

Yes – the Spandex House rocks! And I too have a not-so-secret love of sparkles… on anything.

short sleeve with matching cardigan, you say? I will keep that in mind. And yes, this is my first skating dress. But, I suspect, not my last.
